English as a Second Language Department
From the middle of the USA, located in Hays, Kansas, the English as a Second Language Department of TMP-Marian High School bridges the cultural and social gap through communication. Our classroom setting fosters students to be who they are in both their native speech as well as within the ESL experience.
Mission Statement
The mission of the ESL Program of TMP-M is to ensure that each non-native speaker develops linguistically, academically, and cognitively within a socially and culturally supportive environment. Our program provides intensive English instruction that offers non-native speakers the opportunity to acquire the communicative competence necessary to meet academic, social, and personal goals.
We also encourage students to gain an understanding of the American language and culture while encouraging them to participate actively in the learning process both in and out of the classroom. Students gain a cognitive development that includes the power to create meaning, to construct new understanding or interpretation, and to engage in abstract thought. Our commitment is to our students experiencing construction of meaning and acquisition of language that includes the social and cultural context of his/her experiences in their home, school, community, and the broader society.
