Golf Classic Tournament
The 25th annual Alumni golf tournament held on Friday, June 4, 2010, was dedicated in memory of the late Irvin Karlin '42, (1924-2009). Irv loved the game of golf and was a dedicated alumnus of his alma mater. His wife, Marie (Hartman) Karlin '40 and children, Judy (Karlin) Haas '62, Patty (Karlin) Freed '65, Mary Beth Karlin '69, Cindy (Karlin) Washburn '73 and Terry Karlin '77 continued the tradition set forth by their husband/father with the donation of golf caps and hat clips to commemorate this anniversary of the game he loved so much.
The winners of the men's first flight were Charlie Doerfler '69, Jeff Dinkel '89 and Tim Schmidt '64 with a score of 58, with second place going to the team of Dick Werth '76, Gregg Gottschalk '76 and Lance Morrow with a score of 59. Winners of the men's second flight were Jerry Staab '67, Dennis Staab '69 and Doug Staab '74 with a score of 66, with second place going to the team of Leighton Werth '07, Tyler Hallagin '07 and Cameron Werth '07 also with a score of 67. Mixed flight winners were Mark Washburn, Dusty Washburn '04 and Emily Washburn with a score of 63, with second place going to the team of Terry Karlin '77, Kelli Karlin and Ross Karlin with a score of 69. Winners of the women's flight were Dorothy Gottschalk, Sheila Pfannenstiel and Becky (Gottschalk) Serri '82 with a score of 73.
A King Cobra S2 adjustable driver with head cover was donated by Dick '76 & Kay Werth of Auto World as a prize for the "longest drive on #14". The winner of this prize was Tyler Hallagin '07. Tim '88 & Sandee Werth of VSR Financial Services donated an Ping Kersten CRAZ-E putter with head cover for the "longest putt on #18" prize, which was won by Chris Gottschalk '77 with a 36'11" putt. For the "closest to the pin on #9" a Callaway stand golf bag was donated as a prize by Jim Werth and Dave Werth '78 of Hays Car & Truck Alignment. The winner of this prize was Mark Brungardt '05 with a distance of 121.5" from the pin.
Winners of the raffle prizes were: a Titleist stand golf bag (donated by Hyle Hugunin) won by Kaycee Dechant, one dozen Titleist Pro V golf balls won by Gary Schmeidler '78 and a Nike golf shirt won by Doug Staab '74.
