“The Laws of Nature are but the

mathematical thoughts of God.”   ~Euclid

The Mathematics Department at Thomas More Prep-Marian is dedicated to helping students succeed at every level in mathematics and other disciplines by providing the foundation and structure for critical thinking and analysis.  We believe that the MORE knowledge of mathematics a student possesses, the MORE prepared he or she will be for standardized testing, scholarship opportunities, college or university studies and success in life endeavors.

We offer classes from Algebra 1A, which is aimed at those students who are not yet ready for a regular high school Algebra 1 course, up to and including Advanced Placement Calculus.  We are also aligned with Fort Hays State University and are able to offer College Algebra to our students for concurrent credit.

Our school also participates in the Fort Hays State University Math Relays; therein, high schools from across central and western Kansas compete in mathematics competitions.  The relays consist of both team and individual events.  TMP-Marian consistently has students place in the top of every event!  As a school, TMP-Marian has placed first, six times in the last ten years!  The other four years, we placed second twice and third twice.

TMP-Marian Mathematics…it’s MORE help, MORE choices, and MORE of what you need to succeed.

Pictures above reflect a project that involved cooperative learning between two classes.   Geometry instructor Kim Schmidtberger directed students find angles around the school.  Yearbook instructor Jana Slansky assigned students to take pictures of the angles, then email them to the geometry students.  The students then had to forward that email to Mrs. Schmidtberger with an explanation about the angle.  This one lesson had the students incorporate Technology, Geometry, Photojournalism, and writing skills to complete the project.

“Our faculty is dedicated and highly qualified in mathematics.  All our mathematics teachers have their undergraduate degree in mathematics and most have their masters degree in mathematics as well.”

~Mr. Gene Zimmer, Mathematics Instructor
