Principal's Biography
Born in Hays, KS to John and Helen DeWitt, I attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School, Kennedy Middle School and graduated from Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in 1992. After a year of attending Fort Hays State University, I set out “far above the golden valley” and enrolled at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. In 1997, I married Amy Lark, a native of Holyrood, KS and we have since been blessed with our three daughters Anna (9), Sophia (7), and Madison (5).
After graduating from KU with degrees in Philosophy, Psychology, and Secondary Education, I began my teaching career in the town of Tonganoxie, Kansas. I taught economics and world history and coached football, wrestling, and track at the high school during my five years with the Chieftains. In 1999, when Amy was pregnant with Anna, we moved from Lawrence to the small community of Eudora and I commuted the twenty miles a day from Eudora to Tonganoxie until, in 2002, an opportunity to teach closer to home became available in Eudora. I began a stint at Eudora High School that would last for seven years where I taught US history, world history, economics, sociology, and civics and coached wrestling and track for the Cardinals.
In the spring of 2009, I completed my masters in Education Administration at the University of Kansas. I love teaching. I love coaching. However, after 12 years of doing both, I felt like if the right opportunity came along, I would be willing to give up both to enter the administrative realm. So, here I am back in Hays where it all began for me. By starting my administrative career at TMP, it means that this school represents the “right opportunity” I spoke of. I have been proud to be a Monarch since graduating from these halls 17 years ago. It has been a humbling experience to become another part of the 101 year history of Thomas More Prep-Marian High School as its principal. I look forward to the bright new minds that enter our halls each year and I am excited about the opportunities that await us in the future!
