Special Services and Interrelated
Thomas More Prep –Marian is part of the Hays West Central Kansas special services cooperative of USD 489. Other area member schools include those in Ellis, Lacrosse, Victoria, as well as Holy Family Elementary in Hays. Myra Kreutzer, special services teacher, is the cooperative teacher assigned full time to TMP-Marian and Holy Family Elementary. She has met the requirements to provide special services for students through testing and leading a team to develop an individual education plan(IEP). Special services might be needed on account of a learning disability, behavior disorder, emotional disorder, attention deficit disorder, or physical limitation involving sight or hearing.
Implementing an IEP typically involves both support of regular classroom teachers and providing actual instruction in some areas. The support of regular classroom teachers includes communication, modification of the curriculum, or addressing special needs situations. Providing of actual instruction is possible because of Mrs. Kreutzer’s certification in the areas of language, science, social studies, and mathematics. Instruction is provided to only a few students at a time allowing for generous individualized attention.
Mrs. Kreutzer earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Education at Fort Hays State University and subsequently earned a master’s degree at Fort Hays State University. She enjoys spending time with her three children, Elizabeth, Adam and Rachel.
