PREAMBLE to the Constitution:

We, the students of THOMAS MORE PREP-MARIAN High School, in order to contribute to our school by an exercise of maturity and leadership, to foster greater rapport between students and faculty, to further democratic ideals, and to promote a better understanding between school and community, establish this Constitution for the Student Council of THOMAS MORE PREP-MARIAN High School.

The TMP-Marian student body, faculty & staff, supporters, and community members collected 124 pints of blood during the annual Red Cross blood drive held on March 26th, 2009. This is a new record for the TMP blood drives!

 

Purpose of Student Council:

The purpose of the Student Council of Thomas More Prep-Marian shall provide a platform for rapport with the faculty and administration,and coordinate all interrelated student activities, while observing the principle of subsidiarity, which allows the right of school-related committees to be internally soveriegn. The Student Council shall create, maintain, and promote activities and projects in order to promote student participation. In addition, the student council shall represent th school, community, diocese, and the voice of the student body.

Freshman girls dance to "Father Abraham" at the Freshman-Senior Orientation in August. This is organized by the student council executive officers when the students return to school.

 

Officers

The Student Council is composed of the Executive President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer and are elected members of the senior class. A President and two Vice-Presidents are elected from each class. With the exception of the Junior class, four class representatives are elected, but the junior class elects seven representatives.  All members of the student council are challenged to higher levels of leadership and service in their school and community. Student Council members are supervised by the Student Council advisor and the respective class advisor for their specific class-related duties.

Senior girls take a moment to pose for the camera during the annual back to school dance held in the fieldhouse canteen. Traditionally, this dance takes place after the Blue & White Scrimmage, the weekend before sports competitions begin.

Activities

Organization and execution of various activies that are the responsibility of the Student Coucil may include, but are not limited to the following: Blue and White Scrimmage social activites, Homecoming Student related activies (class competions, building of floats, banner and chant competitions, and student dance), Service related activities(Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat, Red Cross Blood Drive), and Alternative social activities (Dodgeball Tournament, PowderPuff Football, Scavenger Hunts, Movie Nights). Other social dances and activites may be organized by the individual classes and their leaders.

Each year students of TMP-Marian raise funds for those in need in our community. This year all major service organizations came together to raise funds for the United Way of Hays, KS. They organized and sponsored "Buff-N-Puff" that raised $330.00 to for members of our community in need of help. The event was held in November and team names had to relate to Thanksgiving Dinner.  Pizza lunch was the prize for the winners.

The TMP-Marian student body raised $4000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through their Pennies for Patients fundraiser in February 2009. Out of 267 participating schools in Kansas, TMP took both 2nd and 4th place. Second place was awarded for the total amount of money raised, and fourth place was determined because the TMP student body raised the most money per capita.
