Foley Equipment - Think BIG internship program-Grade 12
Foley Equipment partners with Caterpillar to offer paid internship programs where high school graduates can earn an Associate of Science degree, receive hands-on training on Caterpillar equipment, participate in a 7-week paid internship each semester, receive $14,000 worth of tools, gain full-time employment upon graduation, receive scholarships and receive tuition reimbursement. Kansas Future Teacher Academy - Grade 11
This event is for any student in 11th grade who is considering a career in education. The Kansas Future Teacher Academy is held on the Emporia State University campus July 14-18. The cost is $100. American Legion Boys State - 10th & 11th grade boys
American Legion Boys State of Kansas will be Sunday, June 1st through Saturday, June 7th on the campus of Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. Delegates are expected to be junior boys in high school, in the upper half of their class, be self-starters and be involved in extracurricular activities in their school and community. Gather with young men from across Kansas for the purpose of forming and operating their own City, County and State governments, and to debate real issues affecting the cities and counties within the State of Kansas and then propose workable solutions to submit to the Boys State Legislature. This is a great resume' builder! Still not sure what Boys State is all about? Check out the Kansas Boys State website at: https://ksbstate.org/ Interested students should email Mr. Zachman a paragraph explaining why they want to attend by Friday, March 7th. A TMP-M committee will select a delegate and alternate. The local American Legion will pay the $325 program fee. The student’s financial responsibility is $50 for a camp T-shirt, yearbook and registration expenses.
Sunflower Girls State – 11th grade girls
An opportunity for a junior girl to attend a summer program June 1-6 on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence. Gather with young ladies from across the State of Kansas for the purpose of forming and operating their own City, County and State governments, and to debate real issues affecting the cities and counties within the State of Kansas and then propose workable solutions to submit to the Sunflower Girls State Legislature. Girls State is a great resume' builder! Interested students should email Mr Zachman a paragraph explaining why they want to attend before Friday, March 7. A TMP-Marian committee will choose a nominee and an alternate from those who self-nominate. The American Legion Auxiliary will pay the fee for the nominee to attend the camp. FHSU Cyber Con - Grades 9-12
The Fort Hays State University Informatics Department is pleased to announce its annual CyberCon event, scheduled for Friday, March 14, 2025, in the Black and Gold Room of the Memorial Union on the FHSU campus. This event is open to students, faculty, staff, and the general public. Attendees will have the opportunity to: Participate in hands-on workshops covering current cybersecurity and informatics trends, Hear from leading professionals in the field, Learn about the innovative educational opportunities available through the FHSU Informatics Department, Network with fellow students, faculty, and community members. Build My Future Event-Grades 11-12
April 16th, 2025 from 9-3 pm at Tony’s Event Center in Salina, Ks. The Build my Future Event is an interactive/hands on construction career day and industry showcase giving students the opportunity to participate in hands on exhibits. Juniors and Seniors who are interested in the trades industry after high school are highly encouraged to attend this event. Free lunch, t-shirt, prizes and scholarship opportunities will be provided. Ellis County Farm Bureau Ag Ambassadors-Grade 11
Juniors interested in Agriculture and Leadership may apply for a one-year position as a nonvoting board member of the Ellis County Farm Bureau Association. Students will also help plan and participate in Farm Bureau activities such as Kid's Ag Day, Ag in the Classroom etc. Two students from Ellis County will be selected. Students selected will be awarded a $500 scholarship. The student's parents are not required to be Farm Bureau members to apply. Apply by April 1st. Youth Civic Leadership Institute – Grade 11
TMP-M may nominate one current junior to attend this three day/two night program on the University of Kansas campus July 9-11. If you are selected to attend, there is no cost for you! You just need to arrange transportation to and from KU! The program will consist of a variety of speakers, workshops and brainstorming session, all centered on the concept of encouraging interest in civic engagement. Self-nominate by submitting a paragraph to Mr. Zachman which explains why you want to attend this program, no later than April 1. If you are selected to be TMP-M’s nominee, you will fill out the application for the program. Click here for a flyer.

Kansas Aviation Tour- Grades 9-12
The Kansas Aviation Tour will stop at the Rooks County Regional Airport on September 27th from 8:00-11:30am. This free event is an opportunity for students to look at aircraft and speak to pilots, mechanics, air traffic controllers, aviation colleges and other industry professionals. Mr. Zachman will take a school car to this event. Let him know by September 20th if you would like to attend.
FHSU Majors & Graduate Programs Fair - Grades 9-12
Wednesday, October 9 from 11am-3pm. For high school juniors and seniors to explore FHSU majors and degrees. Faculty, staff and students from all academic departments will be available to answer questions. See Mr. Zachman before October 2nd to sign up.
Future Educators Day at FHSU - Grades 10, 11 & 12
Monday, October 21 from 9am-1:30pm. This free event is for 10th, 11th & 12th graders considering a career in education and includes a continental breakfast and buffet-style lunch. 1) Send Mr. Zachman an email so he knows you want to attend 2) register by clicking here. Registration wil close when the event is full, so don't wait! Students will be able to do the following: Interact with current education majors to learn more about a “day in the life” of a Tiger Teacher. Learn about opportunities and organizations such as the Education Small Learning Community, Teacher Education Honors Program, Study Abroad, Study Away and many more! Visit with representatives of the Admissions Office to learn more about FHSU.
FHSU Health & Behavioral Science Day - Grades 11 & 12
November 8 from 9:45am-3:00pm. High School Juniors and Seniors can visit campus and learn about exciting degree programs in the fields of allied health, communication sciences and disorders, health and human performance, nursing, psychology, and social work! MFG Day @ Great Plains Manufacturing - Grades 10-12
Tour Great Plains Manufacturing in Salina to learn about many career opportunities from 8:15-11:45am Thursday, November 14. GPM makes agricultural equipment. Free t-shirt and lunch. Let Mr. Zachman know you are interested in attending before October 30th and answer two questions: 1) T-shirt size, 2) Do you give GPM permission to contact you about job opportunities after high school graduation.
Appelley Student Poetry Contest - Grades 3-12
Free to enter. Each student may submit one original poem on any subject, of no less than 2 lines and no more than 20 lines, in any form other than concrete or blackout. For complete rules or to apply by November 15 go to: www.appelley.org
HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership) - Grade 10
HOBY is a four-day leadership seminar for high school sophomores where over 200 students from across Kansas will participate in activities designed to foster the personal development of becoming an effective advocate, communicator, and leader in their respective areas of passion. HOBY will be May 29-June 1, 2025 on the Kansas State University campus. TMP-M will pay fees for two students and may be able to provide transportation. Students report that this camp was a great experience. Let me know if you would be interested in this opportunity no later than Friday, December 6.
Kansas Future Teacher Academy - Grades 11-12
Learn more about the teaching rofession from Emporia State University, Barton Community College at this event for high school juniors and seniors. December 11 from 9am-2pm at Barton Community College in Great Bend.
Western Cooperative Electric - Grade 11
Western Cooperative Electric would once again like to encourage juniors to apply for our youth tours. To be eligible the students' parent/guardian must be a member of Western Cooperative Electric. We sponsor 2 juniors to take a trip to Washington DC and 2 to go to a leadership camp at Steamboat Springs, CO. All expenses paid and great opportunities!! FHSU FAFSA Completion events - Grade 12
Fort Hays State University will host two Free Application for Federal Student Aid completion events to help students and parents. Bring your computer and FSA ID (and your password!). February 11, from 6-8pm in FHSU Cunningham Hall and February 17, from 2:00-5:30pm in the FHSU Memorial Union Cody Commons. Click here for a flyer.
Nex-Tech/FRS Washington D.C. Youth Tour – age 15-17
All-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. Applicants must be in high school, age 16 or 17 at the time of the tour and their parents/guardians must receive at least one Nex-Tech residential or business service (landline phone, internet or cable TV) excluding any Nex-Tech wireless service. Two students will be selected from our area for the Washington D.C. Youth Tour, June 2-6. Winners will also receive $150 for incidentals and are required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination. Journeys & Destinations at Hays Med - Grades 9-12
Join us at HaysMed on February 18 to explore health care careers! Journeys & Destinations is a day-long event, during which high school students spend time with health care professionals from a wide range of disciplines in a small group setting. Students learn about the career paths, salary potential, and daily activities. Previous Journeys & Destinations events have featured family physicians, athletic trainers, medical technologists, medical forensic scientists, veterinarians, pharmacists, occupational therapists, and more! Each school is limited to 10 students! Registration CLOSES February 4th so email Mr.Zachman if you want to attend!
