FHSU Future Educators Day - Monday, September 29th, 2025

The event is open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in becoming teachers and will allow students to learn more about the profession and what it’s like to be part of Tiger Teacher Nation at FHSU. This event is free and will include a continental breakfast and buffet-style lunch. Admissions and Teacher Education will also draw for scholarships ranging from $200 to $1,000. We are pleased to have Kerri Lacy as our keynote speaker! A former USD 489 and current Independence, MO principal!

 As part of this exciting day, students will do the following:

  • Learn from Kerri Lacy, 2024 Kansas Elementary Principal of the Year

  • Interact with current education majors to learn more about a “day in the life” of a Tiger Teacher.

  • Learn about opportunities and organizations such as the Education Small Learning Community, Teacher Education Honors Program, Study Abroad, Study Away, and many more!

  • Visit with representatives of the Admissions Office to learn more about FHSU.

Nightingale Experience 2025!

Fort Hays State University’s Department of Nursing proudly presents the Nightingale Experience 2025!This experience is designed for those who have interest in nursing,.

There are 2 dates being offered, September 4th and October 1st.  The event will be limited to 15 students per session, but a waitlist will be created for each date.  This event is one day long. Each session begins at 8:30 am at our local hospital HaysMed where students will be greeted at the main entrance,  meet with hospital staff and administration, and then have short observation sessions in their areas of special interest.  At 12:30 pm students will travel to Stroup Hall on the FHSU campus where they will experience what it’s like to be an FHSU nursing student,  enjoy lunch, attend information sessions, go on a tour of Stroup Hall, and observe in available classes, labs, or simulations.   The day will conclude at 4:30 pm in Stroup Hall.   

With 2 site locations, students will need to have transportation from Stroup Hall to HaysMed.   

To register for the Nightingale Experience 2025, students can follow these steps: 

  • Go to https://www.fhsu.edu/nursing/Nightingale-Experience/index  

  • Complete registration and upload the necessary paperwork for any of the dates for 2025. 

  • Notification of completed registration and any further correspondence will be e-mailed to the address provided.  Please check your email and spam folder often!   

Fort Hays Majors and Graduate Programs Fair
The Academic Advising and Career Exploration Center at Fort Hays State University invites you and your students to the annual Majors and Graduate Programs Fair on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

The Majors and Graduate Programs Fair is a career advising event providing current and prospective students the opportunity to explore majors, minors, and certificates offered at FHSU while gaining insights to help them make decisions about their educational journey. There will be faculty and staff from all the academic departments available to provide specific information about their departments and answer questions. Campus tours and conversations with the Admissions Staff can be arranged.

Missouri State University Criminology and Criminal Justice Open House - October 6th

Missouri State University will be hosting their annual Criminology and Criminal Justice Open House on Monday, October 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This event is designed for high school students interested in exploring criminology and criminal justice as a college major. Students attending the open house will be able to:

  • Meet with criminal justice professionals

  • Participate in a use-of-force virtual reality simulation

  • Observe a mock trial and teaching demonstration

  • Speak with professors and current students about our program and certificates

  • Take part in a campus tour in the afternoon

Fort Hays Tech North Central Sophomore/Junior Day - March 2nd

Emporia State University Enhancing Your Future with Mathematics and Science Conference (EYF) - March 7th

This daylong conference is designed to expose 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to a variety of math and science careers and activities. The event will be held on Saturday, March 7th. Registration deadline is January 31, 2026. To register click here.

Kansas University M.D. Program Discovery Day

Join us at the M.D. Program Discovery Day to learn more about the KU School of Medicine M.D. program. The event provides high school students who are interested in pursuing a career as a physician information about preparation for medical school during high school and college, a presentation by a featured student about their path to medicine and ends with a tour of the campus.

K-State "For Sophomores Only" Open House Weekend - April 17th and 18th

This event is designed for high school sophomores and their parents. Reservations can be made by clicking the link.

Boys State - May 31st - June 5th

The Kansas Boys State program is a week-long event at Kansas State University that offers a unique experiential approach to leadership education, emphasizing practical learning through role-playing civic exercises. Registration deadline is April 30th.

Girls State is a week-long leadership camp at the University of Kansas for high school girls between Junior and Senior year, offering immersive experiences in community building, and civic leadership. Registration deadline is May 1st.

West Point Summer Leaders Experience

Students can choose between three sessions:

  • Session 1: May 30 – June 3

  • Session 2: June 5 – June 9

  • Session 3: June 11 – June 15

    The United States Military Academy at West Point is excited to offer current juniors the Summer Leaders Experience (SLE)—a rigorous five-day, overnight immersion led entirely by current West Point cadets.

    SLE offers an authentic look at cadet life and challenges students academically, militarily, physically, and socially. Participants will experience:

  • Hands-on academic workshops: Choose from 17 sessions taught by West Point faculty.

  • Physical and military training: Army PT workouts, obstacle courses (indoor and outdoor), the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA), and more.

  • Leadership and character development: Team-building exercises, the Leader Reaction Course, ethics discussions, and cadet-led activities.

Fort Hays Hispanic College Institute (HCI) - June 3-6th

This is a free, four-day, three-night residential program that prepares high school students to enter and succeed in higher education. This program is open to any high school junior or sophomore (Classes 2027 & 2028) students with a 2.5 GPA or above. To learn more and register click here.

Midwest Energy Youth Tour Trip - June 13-19th

Midwest Energy will be sending two high school juniors to Washington, D.C., for the week-long Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, June 13-19, 2026. Applicants for the trip to Washington, D.C. must be juniors in high school, must live in or attend school in Midwest Energy's service area, and their parents or guardians must receive electric and/or natural gas service from Midwest Energy. Applications due January 31, 2026.

Youth Tour 2026 - June 1-5th

The Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) Youth Tour will bring more than 100 high school students from rural America together for an exciting experience. New-Tech will sponsor 2 area high school students for this trip. Must be ages 15-17.
