The Thomas More Prep-Marian High School Astronomy Club will host a viewing of the Annular Solar Eclipse on Oct. 14, 2023, from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on school grounds in front of the Al Billinger Field House.

Telescopes with solar filters safe for viewing the eclipse will be available, as well as individual viewers to be shared among visitors. At Hays, the eclipse will begin at 10:19 a.m., with maximum coverage of the Sun by the Moon at 11:43 a.m.

While the maximum eclipse will be visible to the southwest of Kansas, 78% of the Sun will be covered by the Moon, so it will be a good eclipse. After 11:43 a.m., the Moon will gradually move away from the Sun, with the eclipse ending at Hays at 1:15 p.m.

Rest room facilities will be available.
